About Us

Mirambeena Motel was purchased by Sue Beames and Stephen Edwards in early 2006. The motel was in a poor state offering single beds, some 40 years old, and outdated ensuite rooms.

Sue and Stephen began a complete internal renovation of the motel in February of 2006 and in June of that year opened the reborn Mirambeena Motel, after having expended just over $400,000 in refurbishment. The motel now offers all queen-size beds, flat screen televisions, separate reverse-cycle air conditioning plus much more.

The Mirambeena Team

Sue Beames, Director: Sue moved to Whyalla with partner Stephen from Victor Harbor in 2006. Sue has previously owned and operated her own restaurant in Victor Harbor (Chesters) for many years and also worked as a manager at the Hotel Victor. Sue's vibrant personality and sense of humour are well-known together with her genuine concerns for her guests and customers. Sue is affectionately known as The Beamer, as she tries hard to put a smile on everyone's face.

Stephen Edwards, Director: Stephen made Whyalla home with Sue in 2006 after selling his Granite Island restaurant and tourist business. He has been involved in property development for the past 20 years, and in particular as a director of Crown Island Developments with long time friend and hotelier Robert Gwynne. Stephen has developed a long and lasting relationship with the local business community, presently developing approximately $30 million of development projects in Whyalla.

Jean McGirr & Sian Bavestock: Jean is an icon at Mirambeena for 23 years as manager, chef, Jean's cooking is appreciated by all that stay at Mirambeena. Quietly working away in the background, Jean looks after everyone's dietary needs.

Sian is the witty Welsh girl who has been Jean's right hand girl for some 16 years. Sian's humour and witty remarks are a real hit to those who see her in action.

These two ladies have been looking after guests at Mirambeena for a combined 39 years. They go out of their way to ensure that all of our guests are catered for their every need.
